You must create a CloudFront distribution, via S3MediaVault, if you wish to use features like HLS True Streaming & Transcriptions.

In that case, you MUST create the CloudFront distribution by clicking on this button, and S3MediaVault will create a new one for you.

When you create a CloudFront distribution using S3MediaVault, this field will automatically be filled in with something like d123456789.cloudfront.net.

DO NOT use an existing CloudFront distribution, because when you do it via S3MediaVault, it will set up various permissions for services like AWS MediaConvert, Transcribe, etc. But if you use an existing CloudFront distribution that was created outside of S3MediaVault, then those permissions will not be set correctly, and features like HLS True Streaming and Transcriptions will not work.

If you're not going to be using CloudFront, you can safely ignore this field and leave it empty.

You don't necessarily have to use CloudFront just to use S3MediaVault. Just Amazon S3 is enough for secure media delivery.

However, adding CloudFront will increase delivery speeds to users across the globe, but also adds a tiny cost to your media delivery. Plus you need to set up CloudFront anyway if you wish to use features like HLS True Streaming and Transcriptions.
