So you woke up this morning with vivid memories of the dream you had last night, and the headline news is that this dream prominently featured your ex.
Maybe you don’t always remember your dreams in the morning, but boy did you remember this one! And it has left you with questions such as, “Why am I dreaming about my ex?” and “What does it MEAN to dream of your ex?” Right now I’m going to give you answers to those questions.
Dreaming About An Ex Is Normal
First of all, let’s just be clear that dreaming about your ex is nothing out of the ordinary. Anyone who you’ve spent significant time with at some point in your life, especially if that time was spent together recently, is going to be someone who’s ingrained deep in your mind.
That memory is not going to go anywhere, and this makes dreaming of an ex more likely than having a dream that focuses on someone you only just met. So just understand that a dream about an ex is completely normal and natural.
Why my ex and not someone else?
Your reaction to my comments above might be along the lines of, “There’s plenty of people I’ve spent significant time with, so what does it mean when you dream about your ex specifically?”
Well, let me tell you a secret. After any romantic relationship, there is always at least a small part of us that still loves our ex-partner. Even if we hate them these days, our feelings for them never drop below a minimum of 1% because of how they made us feel in the past.
This is a long-winded way of saying that you keep dreaming about your ex because at least to some extent, you still love her.
Even with other exes from your past, there’s a nostalgic part of you, even if it’s barely there at just 1%, that still cares for them. So when you dream about your ex, that is the short explanation as to why.
Now, you may remember your ex fondly, or you may still be angry at her for some reason, but the point is, if you didn’t still care to some degree about her, then A. you wouldn’t be feeling these kinds of emotions about her, and B. you wouldn’t be dreaming about her either.
Does this mean I want my ex back?
One dream about your ex is not enough to use as a basis for concluding that you want your ex back. Make no mistake it is a sign that you want her back, but it’s not conclusive.
You need more evidence than just a single dream. That link a couple of sentences back will help you determine whether or not you want your ex back…because while I know that you came to this article wondering, “what does it mean to dream about your ex”, what you were REALLY asking is, “does dreaming about my ex mean I want her back?”.
Like I said, it’s inconclusive, unless…
You are having recurring dreams about ex
Maybe your question wasn’t, “what does it mean when you dream of your ex”, but more like, “why do I KEEP dreaming about my ex?”
Ok now THIS is more of an indication that you want your ex back – and even if you don’t want her back for whatever reason, it’s at least an indication that you still love her quite a lot.
Because hey you can dismiss infrequent dreams about your ex as fairly meaningless in terms of what you want going forwards in your life, but recurring dreams of an ex? This is a clear sign that you still very much love her and would like to get back together with her, on some level.
There’s no other justifiable reason for recurring dreams about an ex-girlfriend. If you didn’t still want her in some way, then your dreams about her would be significantly less frequent, or non-existent.
I know this because I’ve had dreams about ex-girlfriends, and when I really asked myself why do I have dreams about my ex, I noticed they’ve only ever been about the exes I’d like to see again.
Once I even had a sex dream about my ex, and this only gave me further confirmation that getting her back was something I wanted.
Conclusion: What does it mean if you dream about your ex?
The meaning of dreaming about your ex is that you still harbor feelings for her, and that means you need to decide whether you should try to get her back or not.
If you decide to give it a go, the odds will be stacked against you if you just take stabs in the dark in terms of what you try to get her to change her mind.
I know this because most guys try it their own way and fail miserably. What you need is a tried and tested step-by-step framework that can get inside her head and change her mind about you.
